1. Product Overview & Positioning

The Littelfuse MICRO2™ (Micro Second Generation) fuse is a key member of the automotive blade fuse family, with a size between the Mini and Micro3 types. Pioneered and standardized by Littelfuse, it was designed to address the challenges of increasing circuit counts and limited installation space in modern vehicle electronics. Its design achieves an optimal balance between compactness, reliability, and performance. The MICRO2™ Fuse is the new standard for vehicle circuit protection. Its sub-miniature design meets the need for more circuits to be protected while utilizing less space and its ability to cope with high temperatures in adverse environments makes the MICRO2™ Fuse of recommended choice for protection. Black amperage stamps are used on the 20A & 25A / light colored housings to improve contrast for vision system inspection

2. Detailed Design & Construction

· Material: Made from high-strength, high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic (typically Polyamide or similar).

3. Detailed Technical Specifications

· Current Rating: 5A, 7.5A, 10A, 15A, 20A, 25A, 30A.
· Rated Voltage: 32V DC (Designed for 12V/24V automotive systems).
· Voltage Drop: Very low voltage drop at rated current, minimizing power loss.
· Interrupting Rating: Up to 1000A @ 32V DC, enabling safe interruption of severe short-circuit faults, preventing arc and fire hazards.
· Operating Temperature Range: -40°C to +125°C, suitable for harsh environments like engine compartments.
· Cold Resistance: Each current rating has a corresponding very low and stable resistance value.
· Time-Current Characteristic: Complies with stringent automotive standards (e.g., ISO 8820-6). For example, it must open within a specified time (e.g., 0.75 to 1800 seconds) at 135% of rated current and faster at 200% of rated current.

4. Compliance & Certifications

· ISO 8820-6: Compliant with the international standard for road vehicles — Fuses — Part 6: Fuses with J-type terminals (i.e., MICRO2).
· UL/CSA: Certified by UL (USA) and CSA (Canada), ensuring product safety and reliability.
· AEC-Q200: Compliant with the Automotive Electronics Council's stress test qualification for passive components, demonstrating its ability to meet stringent automotive-grade requirements.

5. Key Advantages Summary

· Space Optimization: Saves approximately 50% space compared to MINI fuses, ideal for compact fuse boxes.
· High Reliability: Precision engineering and strict manufacturing standards ensure stable operation under harsh automotive conditions like vibration and thermal cycling.
· Enhanced Safety: High interrupting rating and fast-acting characteristics provide critical protection for expensive Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
· Ease of Use: Color coding and transparent housing simplify identification, installation, and troubleshooting.
· Global Acceptance: Adopted and specified by virtually all major global automobile manufacturers.

6. Typical Applications

· Body Control Modules (BCM)
· Engine Management Units (ECU)
· Transmission Control Units (TCU)
· Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)
· Infotainment & Navigation Systems
· Automotive Lighting Systems
· HVAC Systems
· Airbag Systems (SRS)
